Basketball: I am writing this a week after the game took place. This was quite the learning moment. This was the first week that we had a full 8 people at the game, usually we only had 6. We were looking forward to the game because we thought we wouldnt get tired as quickly and would be able to out pace the other team who only had 5 people. We were wrong. Going into the half, we were tied with the other team. We had decent tempo, but lost numerous possessions by sloppy turnovers. In the second half, we didnt score for the first 7 minutes which sent us behind. We repeatedly made bad passes, took bad shots and didnt make the extra pass. I found myself getting frustrated as we kept giving up points and it boiled into me yelling at some people on my team to pull it together. I never am the person to raise my voice in this way but I had had enough. a handful of people decided to play “hero ball” and the numerous missed layups sent me over. i felt bad about it after the game and apologized thinking I should be better as the team captain. That being said, we should and could have been better. Going into next week, we will emphasize moving the ball and playing as a team.
Volleyball: This was an interesting week. I’m still very much learning how to play within a system, where to go and how to better position myself, We won and lost a game, roughly reflecting how the semester is going for us. What made this week interesting is that a person on my team talked himself off the team. Two weeks ago, he complained about have to sub, something we all have to do. last week, he complained about soft criticism and being told/encouraged to step up. He said that if we dont change to his terms, he’ll leave. I told my captain, who asked me what to do, that he should just lie in the bed he made, or follow through with the words he said. She agreed and he left. I think this is for the best as this guy was often the negativity and stated that he would rather we lose than to have us win if it meant getting his way. We’ll see how this goes moving forward.
