Week 13 reflection

https://youtu.be/igzCUToSYHE?si=YPSyQoo689IoiUJK

This has been a fun week. In my groups presentation on a educational technology tool that us teacher candidates can use in the future, we chose to do ours on BandLab. We briefly spoke about what and how its used. This was kept short so that we can introduce the main event. My group have made, produced, filmed and edited a whole music video on AI in education. This video was fun to make and was fun presenting it to the class. I think it was safe to say that this was a hit. I personally didnt know much about BandLab before this project. However, I was able to help in ways that I could. I submitted the producer tags, adlibs and starred on the video. I have to give major props to Nishant who carried this project. His knowledge and expertise in audio creation was instrumental in this song.

Week 11 reflection

No I believe an important part about preventing plagiarism with AI first of all just kind of comes down to awareness and education I think if we’re able to educate our students and being able to address the importance of academic integrity and consequences to the plagiarism that is one way we can kind of tackle it by preventing it in the 1st place also being strict on the guidelines of such there are some tools that we are able to leverage to detect plagiarism however that being said it’s not perfect there’s a lot of wiggle room and in the case where we are trying to be certain that one is plagiarism unfortunately our tools cannot perfect that for us I think another way we can kind of go about preventing plagiarism is honestly just making the assignments and topics much more personal or customized if we’re just asking them produce a very simple essay or topic that can easily be plagiarized by ai it kind of just invites that but if we make it a lot more personal or reflective then that’s one way we can avoid it and I think also just updating course material staying up to date mixing it up is also a good way to go about preventing plagiarism in this case

Week 9 reflection

I will be using a speech to text for this reflection the topic at hand is my point of view on ai in education I think that this is a new and uncharted territory when it comes to all aspects of how we go about life and even education everything is evolving at a rapid pace at unpredictable events while we were talking about this in class we were talking about how we could use AI generated art or how we could use language models like chat gbt I think that these have value when approached at like a tool a comparison that I had made was how when the calculator was introduced the math Got harder now when it comes to Judge EBT one may use an unlimited sense as in please write me an essay for 200 words on whatever topic I think that is the wrong way to go about it I think like the example for the calculator in math I think we can use chat or language models in a similar fashion for example you could ask an ai model to make an essay and then your assignment is to analyze it and tell me how can you make this better where did this language model fail where is it lacking maybe it has some strengths point those out but I think we’re going to approach everything from a different maybe more critical lens with AI we spoke about the ethical aspects of using ai whether it is if it’s legitimate but also a lot of these am models don’t actually invent anything they simply pull information from the Internet itself and so someone still needs to be creating what these language models are based off of and we also have to be careful when it comes to privacy and with it language models because within those terms and services anything that you put into those language models can then be used as material or source for it but also with AI being a such an uncharted territory there’s a lot of volatility and it’s not established I think even just this week the CEO was fired from open AI the creators of chat GBT and they went to Microsoft instead as long with I think a significant amount of open AIS work force so we will see where chat gpt goes this might be the end for it we don’t know

Week 8 reflection

I’m going to be using a speech to text for this reflection piece The topic for this week was gamified learning and I think that it has its place within education I think that incorporating game like aspects to education can help with the dullness or the repetitiveness potentially of teaching and learning however I think there is a fine line between making everything to a game I think it could potentially take away from the seriousness of it all and also from a lot of the game of fight aspects that we looked at in class a lot of them revolves around computer screens they think that a lot of students are a significant amount of students rather spend quite a bit of time on or in front of a computer or a screen and I think maybe introducing more of that in a classroom but have detrimental effects or effort learning another aspect that was brought up by Julia was that if you’re incorporating a game aspect to education then you also have to teach the proficiencies that come with said game for example if you’re going about it through minecraft you first have to assess whether or not students even know what minecraft is or even how to play a game and that is just an initial roadblock for those students to even be able to participate and even succeed in that activity it might help other students connect better but I think for a good majority of them it’s just not where we should be investing our time and energy

Gamified Learning

So last Tuesday we spoke about gamified learning I believe that gamified learning has its place within the classroom. I think that it is a good idea to make games or have game like elements into teaching and lessen plans in just various activities. I think it takes away maybe the more less interesting aspects of teaching or learning and ultimately just makes it more fun. I think one of the best ways in places that we do learn is when we are at play. I don’t think that having video games is the best way to go about education. I think like myself and a lot of other students we spend quite a bit of time already at home in front of the screen or playing games for whatever reason maybe and I think that introducing it within a classroom setting is just perpetrating a lifestyle or a way of doing that is just in front of a screen and that’s not even talking about the literacy aspect of teaching or learning through games. One person spoke I spoke about something that I consider is simple like minecraft, that they have no clue how to go about it. They say there not sure if they are just too old for it or if it’s just the literacy aspect as if they just can’t learn this there’s a lot of assumption based so I think if we go about it in the sense that we are all learning through video games or some very gamified version that some kids maybe my excel or do well but I think there’s gonna be more kids who are gonna fall through. I think it’s worth considering and in in a way gamification but I think that having it as a way of being is not but we should be doing.

Week 7 reflection

Alright perfect we’re testing this out so I’ve never used speech to text before this is odd and interesting and I’m excited to test it out I’m recording this on the evening of Sunday basically basically a week after our actual lecture that which was on zoom so I’m going to try to remember as much as I can I believe for the most part we were talking about UDL and accessible learning and basically how can one make a classroom accessible and what are the challenges that are faced when it comes to accessibility I believe the overall the idea is good I think everyone just strive for accessibility and that it’s not something that anything anyone would ever disagree with what I think the challenge comes down to is the practicality or basic just accessibility in practice and this came up during some of our discussions all of the modes we’re talking about for UDLS and having basically independent plans for everyone implies that either the teacher has all of the time needed to be able to implement all these plans and think about these plans are also thinks about that the students have the resources all of the resources that they need and that they have teaching assistants or educational assistants to actually be able to implement these plans fully I believe that was a point that was made make up a lot of students who themselves require some additional assistance and their struggles with the system I think in theory it works out I think in practice it’s hard to get it nailed down perfectly and I think it’s just because there’s so many holes in the system itself I personally AM4 including all fours of accessibility i’m personally on the stance that if you need something tell me and I will get in and I will do my best to get it done however I also acknowledge the fact that sometimes people just don’t know or don’t feel comfortable saying what they need at that given time but again I’m for it I just think in practicality might not work out as well as people might think it should which is unfortunate.

Week 6 reflection

As discussed in class, the majority of share the experience of transitioning to online teaching modalities during the recent Covid-19 pandemic. Reflect on your experiences as a student studying in this new format. What aspects of online learning did you like? What issues did you encounter? If given the option to pursue a programme offered either in a F2F (Face to Face), online, or hybrid format; which would you pick and why?

personally, I didnt like the transition to online learning during the pandemic. I appreciated the convienience of countinuing education at home. However, I hated that I had to do school from my bedroom everyday. I found myself getting distracted often because the device they expected me to use to study was also the device I played all my games on. And of course, being by myself with no one around, I prefered to play games than do school. This refelcted in my grades as I almost failed all my classes one semester. As many of my peers seemed to get better grades during the pandemic, my tanked despite my best efforts to cheat at the time. I think that hybrid or F2F may be he best for me as I am able to hold myself accountable.

As we saw with Covid-19, transitions to new modalities are not always expected nor thoroughly prepared for in advance. As a new educator in the secondary system, what advice do you have to yourself and other new educators in how they can best prepare themselves for such a transition if it were to happen in the future? Share two learning activities you plan to have “in your back pocket” that would be useful for leading a course in your specific teachable area during such an emergency transition.

I think the advice is simply to think ahead and to have a rough plan for worst case scenarios. As for activities I would have if I was placed n an emergency situation, I will imagne if I was in the Covid Pandemic. I was have basic discussion groups about their opinions on various topics. I would also maybe have a book or two that we could read and then discuss about in class and maybe do a home project about the book.

OCT 10 reflection

Today we had a brief lesson. We discussed the uses, applications and issues with open AI and AI generated images, I think the whole idea of AI generated images is unique. I support it in the fact that its helpful and convenient. However, I never want it to get to the point where it replaces human made art. From my understanding, AI bases its images off of human made images published online, so its creativity is limited. Its going to be interesting to see how AI is used in the future within education.

Attached is an image i generated using Microsoft designer. there are challenges to this tool. Namely resolution isnt great beyond its original size. Also, the colors, dimensions, and composition are off. Otherwise, the image covers the general idea of what i wanted.

Oct 3rd reflection

This refection includes my reflections on the lecture help Oct 3rd.

This lecture component included the topics of screen recording, educational videos and how to use screencast. In all honesty, I found this particular lecture confusing. It could be that I have taken a handful of painkillers to alleviate the pain I feel in my teeth as a result of getting fillings in this morning, or it could be my inability to understand what exactly is expected.

I believe we are expected to utilize a screen recording software to record a video and include voiceover, then upload the video on one of many websites?

Update: I managed to create and edit a video. However, the software I used has a watermark so its not the best

Week 3 reflection

I thought today’s topic of learning techniques and ideas of cognitive load, redundancy and dual coding interesting. The ideas of dual coding and cognitive load are definitely areas that I’m going to continue to look into. I definitely agree that having multiple modes of which data is being presented really enhances ones ability to absorb and retain it. I thought that the video we watched showed a great example on what not to do. The entire video I thought was contradictory and redundant. I thought it proved it’s point by doing the opposite. I’m unsure whether this was intentional, regardless, the message was clear.

The group activity will be interesting as I believe we will be doing a topic that I am unfamiliar with. I believe we will be doing a theme on music. I enjoy listening to it. Although using music as a tool will be foreign to me. I look forward to learning and expanding on this subject unknown to me.
